ABOUT THE 'KORU'
The Koru or spiral has a very special meaning. In New Zealand, the Maori represent the silver fern frond in the symbol, the Koru or spiral. One of the symbolic meanings is new life as it relates to the fern and its new shoots. The Koru or spiral relates to creations in varying areas e.g. the unfolding of new thoughts, ideas or opportunities. It also represents tranquility, peace, strength and spirituality.
The Koru or spiral is a symbol that holds what is known as the “Golden Mean”, a mathematical ratio (1:1.618) considered to be aesthetically pleasing.
This "Golden Mean" is a formula that has been used to create special structures such as the Greek Parthenon and the Egyptian pyramids. It is believed that by using the "Golden Mean", one is in perfect balance and harmony, becoming close as possible to perfection.
The spiral has no beginning and no end and therefore symbolises both growth and evolution.
